Now, to be honest, I’m not much of a crepe girl. I’m more of an omelette gal. So I was completely surprised to walk into this fine establishment to find crepes with a filling of eggs, cheese & veggies. The veggies part of the crepe were caremalized onions and sauteed mushrooms. Can we all give a collective yum? YUMMMMM!

Bunny and Brandy are two friends living in Chicago who needed an excuse to see each other once a week. A recently discovered mutual love of breakfast food brought them to the conclusion that they should meet every Sunday and journey across the Windy City in search of the most delicious, delightful, decadent, and decently priced brunch spots. The idea struck them to begin a blog to track their culinary expedition.

They found the place to be sunny, bustling, spacious, and blatantly whimsical, sporting such interior design choices as a clock tower, lamp post, and bright blue and yellow painted ceilings.

While waiting for my car to get serviced at Nal’s, I decided to check out this place just across the street and down a bit called Crepes a Latte. I got the marshmallow latte and a dark chocolate raspberry crepe. I thought both were delicious.

A good meal out should be a full sensory experience. From the tastes to the smells, sounds, and even sights, it should be almost holistically pleasing. Many restaurants focus their efforts on creating a great tasting dish. There is certainly nothing wrong with that. In fact, it makes those rare occasions when all of your senses are engaged even more enjoyable. Cozy little Crêpes à Latte provided us with just such an experience.

Featured in The Chicagoist…

Nestled near the Irving Park Brown Line stop in North Center, Crêpes à Latte is hard to miss. The colorful palette of its interior, a melange of blues, greens, oranges and whites virtually jumps through its big windows to drag you inside. As if that is not enough, the smell of fresh crepes wafting through the door also beckons to the taste buds. The whimsical decor, friendly staff, and funky ambience are all great. However, they take a back seat to the true main attraction – the crêpes.

Whether you like them sweet or savory, there is a crêpe on the menu for you. For vegetarians, the selections are more than plentiful. We loved the avocado, cheese, and tomato crêpe. It was light and delicious. We paired with a fresh tasting cucumber salad that was just tart enough to tickle our tongues. The Nutella and strawberry crêpe was equally fantastic. They say you are what you eat. Well, it made us feel quite young in our tummies with its gooey filing of chocolate-hazelnut spread, fresh stawberries and generous dollop of whipped cream.

My dining companion and I felt like a couple of youngsters as we giggled at the names of the coffee drinks and smoothies. Signature javas like the Toasted Marshmallow Mocha and Peanut Butter Mocha didn’t just sound good, they were good. The peanut butter banana smoothie may have been low in fat, but it was definitely high on taste. Had we any room left, there were milkshakes and teas available. However, just like kids in a candy shop, we had already overindulged ourselves.

We pulled over randomly in front of Crepes a Latte, a new cafe on Irving Park Road just east of Damen. This is basically the best thing that has ever happened to me. I intend to order tea and the first edible thing I see and run, but the ambiance – quaint, European-style creperie – and displays of specialty teas and seemingly fresh-baked pastries make it impossible not to slow down for a second.

Born of a catering operation specializing in trade shows, this airy Parisian-style cafe with a perpetual soundtrack of bland jazz has a slick corporate feel showcasing a lineup of breakfast, sweet and savory crepes, hot and cold caffeinated uppers, and a smattering of house-made sweets and pastries. From the modish design to the plastic utensils and patio furniture, you could easily imagine this as the first link in a long and middling chain.
